We are starting a new series of articles to highlight profiles of juniors in India. We will be starting with a double treat of sisters Jayashree and Hindushree who have been racking up laurel after laurel. If you would like to see the profile of other youngsters please contact the website team.
Hindushree and Jayashree are promising bridge players who have risen to prominence in the Chennai bridge scene. Hindushree’s initial foray into bridge came when she was still in high school, at a bridge camp organized by the Mylapore bridge club in 2009, which she attended along with her father. Jayashree joined the camp in the subsequent batch, after seeing Hindushree’s passion for the game. They were both keen students and spurred to excellence by their father, Mr. Sridhar, who is also an avid player. In the Mylapore club, the sisters gleaned their initial lessons from Chennai luminaries such as K. R. Venkatraman, R. Sreekrishnan, R. Kannan and L. Subramanian, as well as D. Vijay. As her teachers, these fine players noticed a spark in these girls and encouraged them to attain new levels of competence. However, the most credit for the girls’ achievements should go to their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Sridhar, who are unstinting in their support of their children’s bridge careers. They take them to most local events in Chennai and practically all tournaments in South India and provide all manner of encouragement. Oh, for more parents like these!
